The short animated film phantasmagoria (2021), which we will screen at our festival, plays with motives of greed, devotion, shame and concealment, which are explored using dreamlike ideas, absurd monologues and surreal scenery. The viewer walks through an unfamiliar environment through the eyes of a silent main character and gradually uncovers individual fragments of a seemingly meaningless story line.
The film was being created gradually from the beginning of 2021.
The basis on which I built the film is a crossed corridor which appears in the second scene of the film. On this basis, I gradually built more and more ideas - what should happen in the room? How to work with this space, what is it characteristic for? In this way, I went from the most general stuff to the smallest details and gradually connected the individual parts to the central idea. The production of all the scenes took place simultaneously, which allowed me to think of the film as a complex artwork. As a result, I often added and changed a lot of things. My long-time motivation to create animated films is my own interest and the need to express myself. I was also driven to finish the film by the Animator's Guild Contest (2021), which I entered. As this was my most time-consuming project so far, the vision of a deadline definitely helped me to keep my time schedule, which I would otherwise undoubtedly neglect. ”, the author describes the creating process background.
